WHAT
Providing front-line health care workers affected by Covid-19 with free supportive listening over the telephone to get some relief, support, empathy and connection.
WHY
We want to help front-line health care workers deal with the stress and difficulties of working through this evolving pandemic. It’s an opportunity for those with skills in supportive listening to help the people who are working hard for health and well-being.
WHO
The project aims to serve front-line healthcare workers including nurses, nursing aids, PSWs, respiratory therapists, physicians, paramedics, etc. who are impacted by Covid-19 at their workplace.
The selected volunteers have backgrounds in providing one-to-one support in fields such as social work, counselling, life coaching, clergy, psychotherapy, etc.
WHAT SUPPORTIVE LISTENING IS
Supportive Listening is
- providing a confidential, safe place to be heard and to get out/unload what you’ve taken on at work or are facing in other parts of your life
- getting empathy for what you’re dealing with
- validating how you feel and acknowledging what matters to you
- having someone who is caring and accepting be present for you
